How to Install WhatsApp on Raspberry Pi

WhatsApp is the most widely used application for communication as it allows users to exchange messages, perform voice and video calling, file transfer, and much more. Though this application is developed primarily for mobile users, installing a web application on your Raspberry Pi system will help users send and receive messages on your Raspberry Pi device. You can use the WhatsApp web on your Chromium browser, but it won’t be ideal since it will consume more memory resources.

This article will show you how to install the WhatsApp application on your Raspberry Pi system.

How to Install WhatsApp on Raspberry Pi

There is no other way to easily install WhatsApp applications on Raspberry Pi except installing it from Pi-Apps, an application store that installs an application directly on your system. Before the installation, make sure you have installed Pi-Apps on your Raspberry Pi system and if not, follow the guide here to install it.

After the installation, perform the following steps to install WhatsApp on the Raspberry Pi system.

Step 1: Open the Pi-Apps and hit the search button.


 

Step 2: Search WhatsApp using the “whatsapp” keywords.


Step 3: Click on the “Install” button to begin the WhatsApp installation on the Raspberry Pi system.


 

Run WhatsApp on Raspberry Pi

You can run WhatsApp on Raspberry Pi from the “Internet“ section in the Raspberry Pi application menu.


To use WhatsApp on your Raspberry Pi system, you must scan the QR code from your mobile so that it will connect to WhatsApp web on Raspberry Pi.

Note: On Mobile, use the “Linked Devices” option to scan the QR code.


You must ensure that your mobile device is connected to the network because scanning will only be successful if both devices are connected. Wait till it loads the WhatsApp chats after then, you will be able to use WhatsApp on your Raspberry Pi device.

Remove WhatsApp from Raspberry Pi

For any reason, if you don’t like using WhatsApp on Raspberry Pi, simply remove it from the Pi-Apps “Installed” section by clicking on the “Uninstall” button.
