Lost Two-factor Codes – How to Login to Discord?

Discord is a popular online platform that allows users to communicate with friends while playing their favorite games. Discord is a secure platform; it allows you to enable 2 factor authentication (2FA) codes for further security with your password, but what to do if you have lost the 2FA code to log in to your Discord account? Well, this guide will help you in that case.

What are Discord Backup Codes

The 8-digit codes used to log in to the Discord account when you forget your password are known as Discord backup codes. It is also the backup for the 2FA, a 6-digit code used for logging into the Discord account with your username and password.

The second step in security for the Discord account while logging in is enabling 2FA; it is not mandatory but recommended for safety reasons.

Lost Two Factor Codes – How to Login Discord

First, check if your account is logged in to another device or not if yes, then you can use the backup codes to access your account with the current password. You can also disable the 2FA from these 8-digits backup codes.

Enter the code exactly as they are written otherwise, you will receive an error message Invalid Discord backup code error. If you cannot access your backup codes, you will need to create a new Discord account.

Note: Keep a copy of your 8-digit backup code, as you can use it if you have lost your 2FA.

If you have lost your 2FA, then there are three different ways from which you can get access to your account:

    1. Disable 2FA using another device
    2. Login to the Account using Backup codes
    3. Use SMS Authentication to login into your account

1: Disable 2FA Using Another Device

2: Access the Account Using Backup Codes

After enabling 2FA from your account settings, you will get 8-digit backup codes; you can use these backup codes to access your Discord account without the 2FA codes. You can also download these backup codes to use them in the future.

Step 1: Log in to your Discord account:

Step 2: Add these backup codes instead of the 2FA codes:

3: Use SMS Authentication to Login into Your Account

If you have not downloaded the backup codes, you can use the SMS authentication process only if you have enabled it. You cannot get the access to your account back if you have not enabled the SMS authentication.

Wrap-Up

Discord is an amazing platform that lets you chat with your team while playing video games. If you have lost your 2FA code, you can still access your account through the backup codes and SMS authentication. If you have not enabled the SMS authentication and don’t have the backup codes, then there is no other way to login into your account.
