How to Install SNES Emulator on Raspberry Pi

In the past, playing games on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) was really fun. Many famous games like Mario Land, Adam’s family, Asterix Sonic Wings, and more are people’s favorites and they love to play these games on their 16-Bit home video gaming consoles.

If you are one of those people and want to recall old memories, you can install the SNES emulator on your Raspberry Pi device through this article’s guidelines.

Install SNES Emulator on Raspberry Pi

Though different gaming operating systems like RetroPie, Lakka, or Recall box include a SNES emulator, this might not be feasible if someone doesn’t want to lose Raspberry Pi OS. In that situation, installing a separate SNES emulator on Raspberry Pi OS would be an ideal fit. You can easily follow the steps below to install the emulator on the Raspberry Pi system.

Step 1: Install Pi-Kiss on Raspberry Pi

Pi-Kiss is a Raspberry Pi utility that includes several tools which can easily be installed on the Raspberry Pi system. It automatically installs the required dependencies on the system, keeping the installation as simple as possible. You can install this utility from here.

Step 2: Run Pi-Kiss on Raspberry Pi

After installing the Pi-Kiss application, you can run it on your desktop from “System Tools”.

Step 3: Install SNES from Pi-Kiss

You will find the SNES emulator in the “Emulation” section.

Press Enter on the “SNES” option.

There are two SNES emulators, Snes9x and BSnes, Select the recommended option:

This will begin installing the SNES emulator on your Raspberry Pi system. After completing the installation, you will be asked to play the New Super Mario Land game since it is already installed in the emulator folder. You can skip playing it and load your own game.

Load and Play Game on SNES Emulator

To load and play the game, you must put the SNES game ROM (with the .sfc extension) inside the directory “/home/pi/games/snes/roms/”. Later, you can load the game from the “System” option.

You can load any game you want but it must be there in the “/home/pi/games/snes/roms/” directory.

In my case, I have loaded the game “uwol”.

In this way, you can play multiple SNES games on your Raspberry Pi system.

Conclusion

SNES is a classic gaming emulator that can easily be installed on a Raspberry Pi system through the Pi-Kiss utility in the “Emulation” section. After the installation, you can load and run any game you want, but it must be in the ROMS directory of SNES. The game will smoothly run on your Raspberry Pi device since we have installed the recommended BSNES that have better performance and are easy to use.
