How to Install Facebook Messenger for Desktop on Linux Mint 21

Facebook is one of the biggest social media platforms that have millions of users from all over the world and is still evolving. This platform uses messenger applications to let its users communicate with other people and is available on multiple operating systems one of which is Linux. So, if you want to use Facebook Messenger application on Linux Mint 21 then first you need to install it and for that follow this guide.

Installing Facebook Messenger Application on Linux Mint 21

To install the Facebook Messenger on Linux operating system one needs to have install a third-party application first that is Franz, below are the steps that one needs to follow to get Facebook Messenger on Linux Mint 21:

Step 1: Since to install the Facebook Messenger on Linux one needs to install Franz so let’s download its .deb file from its official website by clicking on Ubuntu:

Once you have clicked on Ubuntu it will start to download in the Download folder of Linux Mint:

When the download is complete go to the Downloads directory using cd command and then use the ls command to check if the file is there:

Step 2: Now install it using the default package manager and ensure that the directory is the same in which the .deb file is downloaded:

$ sudo apt install ./franz_5.9.2_amd64.deb

Step 3: Now run the Franz application through the terminal using:

$ franz

Step 4: Now to use the messenger click on Create a free account or in any case you have already Franz account then click on Login to your account:

If you are using this application for the first time, then create and account by filling up the necessary details and once you are done click on Create account:

Step 5: Now select the Messenger application can click on Let’s go:

Since Franz comes with different pricing plans and the free one has limited features but still you can use Facebook Messenger on it so click on Strat using Franz:

Step 6: Now the application is all setup and all you need is to log in to your Facebook account and start using the Facebook Messenger:

So, this how one can use the Facebook Messenger on Linux Mint system:

If you no longer want this application on Linux Mint, then remove it completely using:

$ sudo apt remove --autoremove franz -y
