Step 1: First click on the App launcher and then on the Files icon:

Note: You can use the keyboard shortcut Shift+Alt+M to open files on Chromebook.

Step 2: Select the files you want to Zip or simply press Ctrl + A to select all the files:

Step 3: Right-click on the selected files and select the option Zip selection from the drop-down menu:

The selected files will be zipped into one folder and will appear on top of the selected files with the default archive.zip name.

Step 4: If you want to ZIP a folder, then select the folder and right, click on it, and select the ZIP selection option:

The zipped folder name will be the same as the original folder name with .zip extension:

Right click on the ZIP folder to rename it or use keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Enter, select the rename option from drop down menu:

Enter the name of the folder to rename it.

How to Unzip Files on Chromebook

If you have received a ZIP file from someone, then unzipping it will take only a few seconds. Unzipping files on Chromebook is easy but different from Windows and macOS. Here are the steps to unzip the files on Chromebook:

Step 1: Select the ZIP folder and click on it:

Step 2: Choose the files you want to unzip:

Step 3: Right click on the file and select the copy option or simply press Ctrl+C:

Step 4: Create a new folder or press Ctrl+E to create a new folder:

Step 5: Right click to paste (Ctrl+V) the file in new folder:

Step 6: Click on the eject button next to the Zipped file to complete the unzip process.

Note: This method will only work for ZIP and RAR files.

The Wicked Good Unarchiver is an extension built especially for Chromebook, and through it, you can unzip a number of compressed formats. To Unzip your file, follow the steps given below:

Step 1: Open the Chrome browser on Chromebook:

Step 2: Search for Wicked Good Unarchiver on the Chrome browser, and click on the first link or simply search in on Chrome Web Store:

Step 3: In the next step, click on the Add to Chromebook to add this extension:

Step 4: Now right click on the Zipped file with any format and click on open with and select Wicked Good Unarchiver:

Step 5: Copy the files of the ZIP folder, create a new folder and paste them there.

It is a free extension for extracting and creating ZIP files on your Chromebook. It also supports password-protected files:

Step 1: Open the chrome browser and type Zip extractor:

Step 2: Click on the install option to add the ZIP extractor to your Chromebook browser:

Step 3: Click on the button “Open ZIP From Computer”:

Step 4: Select the ZIP file and then click on Open button:

Step 5: Press the Extract button to extract the files on Chromebook:

Step 6: A new folder will be created in which you can view unzip files; click on View Files to open the unzip folder.

Step 7: Unzipped folder will be opened in Google drive:
