Who Made Java

Java is one of the most popularly used, top rated, and influential programming languages. According to the oracle, more than three billion devices use Java programming. The immense amount of Java users shows the popularity and influence of Java programming. There are many reasons to choose java; one of them is its significant features. For example, java is secure, portable, dynamic, etc.

Considering all the features and significance of the Java programming language, you must be wondering who the mastermind is behind Java’s development?

Who made Java?

History witnessed that the inventor, the father, and the mastermind of the Java programming language is James Gosling!

Professional Name
He is professionally known as “Dr. java” because of his remarkable services.

Education
James Gosling completed his graduation in CS(computer science) from the Calgary University university. After that, he migrated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to earn his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University.

History of Java Programming language

A Canada-born computer scientist named James Gosling , along with his couple of friends, first invented the java programming language in the early 90s. It didn’t happen overnight; instead, it took years and consistent efforts.

Java Development Cycle

Now, we will understand the gradual development of Java:

Green Team
Initially, in the early 90s, James Gosling along with Mike Sheridan and Patrik Naughton started a project at Sun Microsystems. The aim was to design a programming language for interactive television. To do that, they established a development team, and named it as the Green Team.

First Java-Oriented Application
The green team began their journey with the development of the interactive television. In the early 90s, developing an interactive television was too advanced technology for the industry, however, it was magnificently suitable for the internet.

Green-talk
James Gosling and his team mates named the java programming language “Greentalk”. Therefore, at that time the extension was “.gt”.

Oak
After some time, James Gosling and co. renamed the “Green talk” as “Oak”. “Oak” is a tree which is considered as the national symbol of several countries such as the U.S.A, Germany, and so on. James Gosling and colleagues chose the name “Oak” because it is recognized as the symbol of strength.

Java
Finally, a time has come when “Oak” was officially renamed as “Java” programming language. The Java community added an image of a coffee cup to Java’s logo because Java was based on a coffee’s name.

That was all the necessary information regarding who made java.

Conclusion

A Canada-born computer scientist named James Gosling and his two friends, first invented the java programming language in the early 90s. James Gosling is professionally known as “Dr. java” because of his remarkable services. James Gosling completed his graduation from the Calgary University and after that, he migrated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to earn his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University.
