How to Install KTorrent on Linux Mint 21

KTorrent is a BitTorrent client for the KDE desktop environment which is a free and open-source software application through which users can download and share files. It provides support for a wide range of protocols, including IPv6, DHT, and µTP and is available on Windows, Linux and MacOS. This guide is all about different ways to install KTorrent on Linux Mint so, if you are planning to get this application on Linux Mint then read this guide.

Installing KTorrent on Linux Mint 21

KTorrent is a powerful and feature-rich BitTorrent client that is well-suited for Linux Mint users as it offers support for a wide range of features, here are some ways to install it on Linux Mint:

Through Apt

The easiest way to get this KTorrent on Linux Mint is by using its default package manager and for that execute:

$ sudo apt install ktorrent -y

Next run the application through the terminal by writing ktorrent and start downloading your files:

Now to remove the application completely from Linux Mint 21 just execute:

$ sudo apt remove --autoremove ktorrent -y

Through Snap

To install KTorrent on Linux Mint through Snap Store one needs to have it installed on it and if you don’t have it on Linux Mint then execute:

$ sudo mv /etc/apt/preferences.d/nosnap.pref ~/Documents/nosnap.backup

Now install snapd:

$ sudo apt install snapd

Once the snap is installed on your Linux Mint or you have already installed it then just execute the below command to get KTorrent installed:

$ sudo snap install ktorrent

After the application is install run it through Linux Mint GUI by going to its application menu:

If you no longer need to use this BitTorrent client on Linux Mint and installed it through Snap then execute the given command to remove it completely from the system:

Through Software Manager

Another way to get this torrent client on Linux Mint is by using its Software Manager and for that just run the software manager through its application menu and search for KTorrent in the search bar. Next select the first option in the search bar and then click on Install icon to get is it installed on Linux Mint 21:

Now run the application by clicking on the Launch button present that top right side of the software manager and get started with downloading torrent files:

To remove this application just go to Linux Mint application menu then click on uninstall option under the right click menu of KTorrent:
