How to Install KDE Plasma Desktop on Linux Mint

Linux Mint offers you different graphical workspace environments and KDE Plasma is also one of them. You can always modify it to suit your needs without risking your privacy or freedom. How To Install KDE Plasma Desktop on Linux Mint 21

To install it on Linux Mint 21, there are two ways:

Installation of KDE Plasma Using Software Manager

To install KDE Plasma Desktop using GUI open the Software Manager, search for KDE Plasma, and click on Install:

Step 2: When the KDE Plasma Desktop is successfully installed, reboot your system.

Step 3: You will be required to enter your password to log in to the system but first just click on the graphical icon in front of your use name:

Step 4: Now choose Plasma(X11) as your desktop of the system:

Installation of KDE Plasma Through Apt using Terminal

To install KDE Plasma Through Apt follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: To install KDE Plasma Desktop using terminal of Linux Mint execute the apt command given below:

sudo apt install kde-plasma-desktop kde-standard

Step 2: When the KDE Plasma Desktop is successfully installed reboot your system.

Step 3: You will be required to enter your password to log in to the system but first just click on the graphical icon in front of your use name:

Step 4: Now choose Plasma(X11) as your desktop of the system:

Step 5: The KDE Plasma Desktop will take a few moments to set up:

Step 6: And you will be logged in to your system with Plasma Desktop interface which is different from default Linux Mint desktop:

Step 7: You can remove the KDE Plasma Desktop by executing the following command in the terminal:

sudo apt purge '^kde' '^kubuntu' '^plasma'

Step 8: If you want to switch back to your normal GUI desktop of your Linux Mint then you can select cinnamon (Default).
