What Devices can be Operated Wirelessly with Raspberry Pi 4

The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B is the most used board among other Raspberry Pi boards, it is launched in June 2019 and it comes with the ethernet port as well as with the WiFi and Bluetooth on board by which we can control many devices without connecting wires with the Raspberry Pi 4.

We can observe that in the coming days, the technology is shifting from wired to wireless and all the inventions are preferred to be wireless so that they can easily be handled as compared to wired devices. In this write-up, we will discuss which devices can be operated with the Raspberry Pi 4 wirelessly.

What devices can be operated wirelessly with the Raspberry Pi 4

All the devices which contain the Bluetooth and WiFi modules can be connected to the Raspberry Pi 4 like Bluetooth speakers, headphones, and so on. But there are many other devices that can be connected to the Raspberry Pi 4, the most common devices which can be connected and operated with the Raspberry Pi wirelessly are:

  • Printers
  • Sound system
  • USB devices

The connection and operation of these devices with the Raspberry Pi 4 are explained in detail in the next sections of this write-up.

How to operate a printer wirelessly with the Raspberry Pi 4

Till now we know that for printing a document from the computer, we have to connect the printer with a cable to the computer and send a command to the printer to print that document. This task of printing from the printer can be done by sitting anywhere in the room wirelessly from the printer. The only thing which is required is to connect the Raspberry Pi with the printer wirelessly. The boards of Raspberry Pi 4, Raspberry Pi 3B, and Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W contain the WiFi modules installed on their boards.

To connect the printer wirelessly with the Raspberry Pi 4, first, make sure that the WiFi has been enabled and packages of “Samba” and “CUPS” are installed. The Samba is used to share the files whereas the CUPS provides the required dependencies which are needed to connect the printer with Raspberry Pi 4. Finally, search the printer, configure it using the WiFi and enjoy the prints by sending it commands.

How to convert a sound system into a wireless audio player using the Raspberry Pi 4

If you have a sound system consisting of large output speakers, powerful rating amplifiers, and other sound feature components and you want it to connect wirelessly with the Raspberry Pi 4, then you have to follow some simple steps. You have to turn on the Bluetooth or Spotify receivers of the sound system, connect and configure it with the Balena Sound.

The readers who do not know about the Balena Sound, the Balena Sound is the audio streamer that allows you to stream the audio music from your old speakers which support any of them, Bluetooth, AirPlay, and Spotify connect.

The hardware equipment which is required to connect a sound system with the Raspberry Pi, is Raspberry Pi 4, an SD card, and a 3.5 mm audio cable to connect with the speakers to play the output. Make sure the sound system must contain any of these, Bluetooth, Airplay, or Spotify.

Simply install the Balena Sound on the Raspberry Pi 4 and enjoy the audio streaming without using any wires with the Raspberry Pi 4.

How to access the USB devices remotely with the Raspberry Pi 4

The question was an astonishing one about how it’s possible to access the USB devices without even connecting them with the Raspberry Pi 4. Yes, it is possible, we can connect the USB webcam with the Raspberry Pi 4 which supports the WiFi or Bluetooth feature, and can manage the rotation and other controls of the webcam wirelessly.

To connect USB devices with the Raspberry Pi 4 and to use them, we need to install software known as “VirtualHere”. If you have to connect one USB device then you can use the trial version of this software and if you want to connect more than one USB device, then you have to buy the paid version of this software. Simply download this software on the Raspberry Pi 4 and enjoy different USB devices by connecting them with the Raspberry Pi remotely.

Conclusion

It is a little bit hard to manage the devices which are connected with Raspberry Pi 4 using wires or cables, so it is preferred to connect the wireless devices with the Raspberry Pi 4 so we can enjoy its output from anywhere in the room. In this write-up, we have discussed different devices which can be connected to the Raspberry Pi 4 using Bluetooth or WiFi.
